MICHAEL KLIEN – ARTISTIC DIRECTOR (FULL-TIME)

One of Europe’s choreographic pioneers, Austrian Michael Klien is Daghdha Dance Company’s artistic director. Michael has been working as a choreographer, curator and producer of numerous touring productions, installations and events. Prior to his appointment with Daghdha he has been guest choreographer for Ballett Frankfurt and the Volksoper Wien. His work has been performed at many venues across the world.
GEMMA CARCATERRA – GENERAL MANAGER (FULL-TIME)

Born in the UK Gemma Carcaterra studied Applied Arts and subsequently went on to work with independent designers. She acquired an MA in Industrial/Product Design specialising in museums and exhibitions. Her work as client manager and project coordinator within the UK included the design and build of two exhibitions at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London. After living and working is New Zealand and Australia, Gemma moved to Limerick and joined Daghdha Dance Company in 2007.
BUSH HARTSHORN – CONSULTANT (FREELANCE)

After ten years as a long distance truck driver Bush Hartshorn attended the Dartington College of Arts graduating in 1982. Since that time he has worked variously as a director and performer throughout Europe. During the nineties he was artistic director of Green Room Manchester, moving on to DeBeweeging Antwerp and the Rotterdam Festivals. Bush took up the reins as director of Yorkshire Dance Leeds in 1998 and then joined Daghdha Dance Company in January 2009.
LAURA DANNEQUIN — DANCE ARTIST (FREELANCE)

Laura Dannequin, born in France, trained in theatre and holds a BA in Drama from the University of Exeter. She trained independently in contemporary and butoh dance, martial arts and aerial skills across Europe. As an independent dance artist, she performed and collaborated with a range of choreographers, directors and film-makers including Saburo Teshigawara, Fran Barbe and Michael Klien. Since 2004, Laura has developed and presented her own performance work in the UK and Ireland, including West of Nowhere, Land and Gunned Down. Laura joined Daghdha Dance Company full-time in 2008 as a core dance artist after completing two years on the Daghdha Mentoring Programme.
MARK CARBERRY – DANCE ARTIST (FREELANCE)

Mark Carberry, originally from Limerick, trained in dance at the Laban Conservatoire for Contemporary Dance. Mark has worked with a range of choreographers including Michael Klien, Alexis Clancy, Jane Kellighan and Colin Gee. Mark is currently working on his own choreographic practice. He recently presented two full nights of work within Daghdha Space during Shameful Ideas & Thoughts in May 2008, including Knot (Solo), Sometimes Seamless Members (Duet) and Famine Blue (Solo). Mark joined Daghdha Dance Company’s core dance artists in 2008 after two years on the Daghdha Mentoring Programme.
JOHN CASEY – ADVISOR AND ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (PART-TIME)

John Casey was born and grew up in Limerick and has been working at the Garvey Centre, an occupational centre for people with learning difficulties, for the past eleven years. Since childhood John has always greatly enjoyed art and drawing, working in pencil and marker pen. Dancing in his room since the age of twelve, John’s unique talent for performing was finally discovered in 2006, when he was a founding member of the Lovespotters, touring nationally and internationally in 2007. He wants to state “I am so lucky God made me a good dancer”, and that he has lots of great Down-Syndrome friends living in Limerick whom he likes to help. In 2008 John joined Daghdha Dance Company’s team as an artistic advisor and administrative assistant on a part-time basis.
STEVE VALK – DRAMATURGE (FREELANCE)

Born in 1962 in New Jersey, Steve Valk studied German studies and film at the Cornell University and completed further studies of American studies and literary theory at the John F. Kennedy Institute at the Berlin Free University. Since 1991, Steve has been an artist in residence, creative collaborator and dramaturge with William Forsythe at Ballett Frankfurt and Theater am Turm. In 2004 he began working with Daghdha Dance Company as dramaturge and artistic collaborator.
jEFFREY GORMLY – WRITER (FREELANCE)

Jeffrey Gormly is a writer and producer working in new participatory models, applied science fiction, and social choreography. As well as editing Choreograph.net and continuing to develop the Framemakers and RICE projects for Daghdha Dance Company, he is literary officer with nervousystem performance lab and on commission to the Abbey Theatre Dublin. He is currently in receipt of a two-year artists bursary from the Arts Council of Ireland. He is currently working on a number of scripts for stage, and a flexistential cookbook.
VOLKMAR KLIEN – COMPOSER (FREELANCE)

Born in Vienna, where he studied composition and philosophy, Volkmar Klien is currently working as a freelance composer and lecturer at the University for Music and Performing Arts, Vienna and is writing a PhD in Electroacoustic Composition at the City University, London. Volkmar received the State Scholarship for Composition of the Republic of Austria in 2006. He has composed the music for most of Michael Klien’s productions.
RAFAL KOSAKOWSKI – DESIGNER (FREELANCE)

Rafal Kosakowski has been responsible for Daghdha Dance Company’s visual identity since 2003. He is currently based in Vienna and works independently in the various fields of his craft, including new media, print, TV and industrial design. His portfolio includes high-profile clients from film, music, commerce, communication and the cultural industries.
