MISSION STATEMENT

Daghdha Dance Company exists to produce choreography and dance that illustrate the role, value and legacy of research, discourse and artistic process. Our mission is to develop dance and choreography to a level of excellence for traditional and non-traditional formats including stages, galleries and other surfaces. We aim to engage the perception and imagination of both artists and audiences (locally, nationally and internationally).
PROFILE

Daghdha Dance Company, pioneers of Irish contemporary choreography and dance since 1988, is one of Europe’s most progressive dance organisations. At home in the heart of Limerick, Daghdha Space (St. John’s Church) provides a stunning backdrop for the company’s unique combination of out-of-the-box thinking and a purity of focus in dance and choreography. Under the direction of choreographer Michael Klien since 2003, Daghdha has successfully undergone an invigorating period of growth and innovation.

Originally founded by Mary Nunan and Teresa Leahy, Daghdha Dance Company has been home to many exceptional dancers and choreographers ever since, including Yoshiko Chuma, Paul Johnson, Elena Giannotti, Jeffrey Gormly, Angie Smalis, Davide Terlingo, Talal Al-Muhanna and Nicole Peisl. The company also hosted an array of internationally renowned artists such as Rosemary Butcher, Jean Butler, Colin Dunne, Colin Gee, Nick Haffner, David Kern, Prue Lang, Thomas McManus, Jone San Martin, Fabrice Mazliah, Roberta Mosca, Steve Paxton, Yvonne Rainer, Richard Siegal and many others.

“… a vital and profoundly forward thinking dance institution which is offering a meaningful and socially sustainable ‘way forward’ for contemporary dance. All of us can look to the work, the ideas and the innovations developed at Daghdha with deep respect and admiration.”
(William Forsythe, choreographer, artistic patron)
